Volunteering with RIDES+
IVCG is one of the only volunteer-led providers of free non-emergency medical transportation in Connecticut. Through this, we are a critical part of the medical infrastructure. Our medical appointment volunteer drivers provide door to door transport for IVCG senior clients (e.g. picking them up at home, taking them to their medical destinations, and then returning home). We don't drive for emergency purposes.
To ensure the safety of both drivers and clients, all drivers must register with IVCG and go through criminal background and DMV driving record checks.

As our volunteer driver, you'll determine when and how often you're available; all we ask is that you try to provide at least one ride-per month. You'll sign up for the rides that YOU want to provide (based on your schedule and distance parameters). This happens through our online scheduling system. NOTE: We NEVER assign rides to volunteer drivers without their independent selection of that ride.

Volunteering with Experience Corps
Tutor K–3 students one-to-one in reading fluency skills using a proven curriculum developed and curated by the AARP Foundation. Volunteers with Experience Corps of Greater New Haven are a proud part of the EC-national network and have the distinction of being part of the ONLY EC program in the State of CT.
Tutor-volunteers must be 50-years or older. In addition to volunteering as a tutor, you can join the EC-GNH Community Team of volunteers to help build resilience for this important community work.
Build meaningful relationships that boost confidence and motivation for young people in the community. EC-GNH volunteers typically serve 5+ hours/week during the school year (Sept–May).

Volunteering with Food Force
Each week, IVCG volunteers deliver free groceries to seniors in New Haven County. As part of this program, you'll typically drive a route of 8-10 "stops" during your chosen day. All volunteers in this program are able to select days that work best for them on a rotating basis. We encourage volunteers in this team to commit to at least one "shift" per month or one every two months. As a Grocery Delivery team member with Food Force - you'll come to St. Paul & St. James Church at Wooster Square in New Haven at approximately 9:30am on "your" Saturday and then head out to make the deliveries. Easy!

Volunteering with Admin and/or Remote-based Teams:
Thanks to digital technology, there are an increasing number of options for volunteers interested in working "from home". Please know - this doesn't work for everyone and it can take some extra time to get "set-up". However, it's a great pathway for some people due to transportation limitations, scheduling challenges, or other logistical barriers to in-person volunteer service.

Remember - IVCG volunteers assist with all sorts of community activities and can participate with one volunteer team (e.g. "cohort" through a volunteer opportunity) OR by praticipating in multiple opportunities. Activities are wide-ranging such as driving activities, inventory support + distribution of incontinence products (Diapers 4 Dignity), social engagement (Cultivating Connections), tutoring youth in reading fluency (Experience Corps), and more!
