IVCG receives an annual grant of funding from Title III of the Older Americans Act, as amended, through the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut.

Clients registered and "Community Riders" are aged 60 years or older, regardless of income, who lives in our service area. This free program is called IVCG RIDES. It's an entirely volunteer based non-emergency medical transportation service.

Volunteers provide our rides with their own vehicles. We accept ride bookings every weekday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NOTE: Capacity is limited and ride requests are sometimes declined. To reduce the risk of declines, the RIDES+ membership program is an alternative.

After scheduling your appointment with your doctor's office, call to request your ride with our general number or by calling the direct RIDES+ phone line to leave a message at (475) 257-6537. More notice improves the chance that we will be successful in matching you to a volunteer. You may call us as far in advance as you wish.

The day PRIOR to your ride, your driver will call you to confirm, so please answer your phone, even if you don't recognize the number. Due to the overwhelming demand for our services, we ask that program participants limit their requests to important medical rides and understand that our schedule often fills up.

Community Riders (those riding without a membership to RIDES+) must register for transportation through the full client intake process. That includes the "FORM 5" questions required by the State of CT and the funding administrator (the Agency on Aging of South Central CT) for the Title IIIB funding via the Older American's Act.

We encourage Community Riders to enroll with multiple transportation providers due to the possibility of declined requests through IVCG RIDES. If you need help getting connected to other providers, please call the office and we will be happy to provide you with the information.

NOTES:

  • When first requesting your ride, we post that information to our internal system in order to give volunteers an opportunity to assist you.

  • IVCG cannot provide a guarantee that your ride request will be fulfilled. However, MOST requests are fulfilled.

  • Because of the holidays, we are now pausing new client intake requests until January 10, 2026

During the current pause in client intake, any new inquiries (including interest in registering) will be documented with the prospective client's name, phone number, and date of inquiry on a waiting list.

  • Those on the waiting list will be contacted after the moratorium to confirm whether they wish to proceed with registration.

If you have questions about our client policies, please review our "service guidelines".
